Neonatal ICU (NICU)

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at West Hills Hospital & Medical Center is a Level II NICU for critical newborn care. This modern NICU is world-class care for premature and micro-premature babies in our safe, nurturing facility with 24 hours a day, 7 days a week specialized monitoring and staffing. This very special 11-bed hospital nursery provides care and treatment to newborn babies who need specialized help -- infants who cannot go home after birth, or develop problems in the first few days of life. They may be born prematurely or show signs of problems during delivery, and may be sent to the NICU within the first 24 hours after birth. When complications arise even within minutes after birth, stabilization rooms are operated by NICU staff in the Labor and Delivery department before quick transport to the NICU. Our NICU nursery is a life-saving, high-technology hospital unit operated by healthcare staff trained in specialized newborn care that goes beyond ordinary infant healthcare. Care may range from days to months depending on the severity of your baby’s needs.

Who is in charge of the NICU?

NICU specialists are neonatologists -- doctors who specialize in infant care, who treat and diagnose newborns. Specially trained NICU staff also includes nurses, respiratory therapists, occupational and physical therapists, nutritionists and pharmacists. Questions regarding your baby’s diagnosis or condition will be answered by these highly trained nurses and doctors who provide daily and constant care to our smallest patients.
